A traditional production in the cauldron in Provence
Since 1828, the Rampal master soap makers have maintained ancestral know-how by manufacturing real Marseille soap and perpetuating the traditional Marseille process in a cauldron, in its Provençal factory in Salon de Provence. Respectful of craftsmanship, it is still produced today according to the so-called Marseilles process. Traditionally, Marseille soap is made up of vegetable oils, soda, salt and water. To make our white Marseille soap, we carefully and rigorously select our raw materials, using, for example, exclusively purified vegetable oils, or salt from Salies-de-Béarn. Our desire is to offer you a Marseille soap of exceptional purity, which respects and hydrates your skin. To design it, we start by heating vegetable oils in a cauldron. After adding soda, these vegetable oils will turn into a thick mass. The saponification process then begins. To remove excess soda, unsaponified fatty acids and impurities, the soap is washed in salt-laden water. Finally, it goes through the liquidation stage to become a smooth paste and then is air-dried and moulded.
An eco-designed Marseille soap using a patented manufacturing technique
In our soap factory, we campaign to protect traditional Marseille soap, while being innovative. To meet current expectations and concerns, particularly in terms of environmental footprint, we have reworked the way we make our Marseille soap to reduce our energy and water consumption. We have perfected our cauldron manufacturing technique by keeping the natural glycerin at the heart of Marseille soap, thanks to an innovative method, patented by the INPI since 2019. This glycerin, produced naturally without addition during saponification, gives our white Marseille soap its strong moisturizing power, and makes it particularly gentle on the skin. This patented technique makes it possible to obtain a product of superior quality, both environmental and dermatological.
